In-home care focuses on helping seniors with the daily activities of living. These are tasks we all perform each day to stay healthy and engaged with life. For example:
When a person becomes unable to perform these tasks, even temporarily, family members and non-medical caregivers can step in to help. Assisting with these activities generally doesn’t require any sort of medical certification. In contrast, home health care requires a doctor’s order and is performed by a licensed health professional, such as a nurse or physical therapist.
Here are a few examples of services provided by home health professionals:

Home Instead® caregivers help seniors remain independent as long as possible in the comfort of their own homes or in care communities as they age, providing services and companionship, from meal preparation and medication reminders, to personal care and Alzheimer’s care.
The Home Instead® network's mission of caring for older adults extends not only to seniors and their families, but to the company's Care Pros as well. "We like to talk about a holistic approach—caring for our caregivers' minds, bodies and spirits," says Chief Administrative Officer Jeff Huber. "When you care for the Care Professionals, they in turn are better equipped to create meaningful relationships with their clients."
"We refer to that as the 'Care Professional Experience.' That means valuing caregivers and addressing their needs to allow them to do what they do best-help seniors remain independent for as long as possible."
Much of that mission is accomplished through training and support, Huber explained. "Home Instead Care Pros complete a multi-phased safety and caregiving education program that features case studies, senior illness information, stimulating activities, nutritional recipes, and tips for coping with stress. This is the cornerstone of our training program," he said.
"We have also found through research that a feeling of being connected to the business and to other caregivers is important to those who provide care - as is recognition, appreciation and communication."
The Care Professional Experience is what makes caregiving more than "just a job" for thousands of Home Instead caregivers across the country.
